walking MILES.....

I wish to hit a 100—optimistically yours, I believe we all can.

Over the years, by talking to, reading about, and listening to hundreds of centenarians from around the world, I realised something reassuring: 100 is the new 80, if only we learn how to go the MILES.

Not in a dramatic, overnight way—but through small, intentional choices we make every day.

M – Movement: Keep the Body Going

Movement is what separates us from non-living things, so I remind myself to do what they can’t—move. I walk with purpose every single day. Long hours of sitting no longer work for me. I stretch, stand, and keep my body active throughout the day, because motion truly is life.

I – Intake: Eat With Awareness

What I eat matters more now than ever. Gut health has become a priority, so hydration and proteins take centre stage, while carbohydrates take a step back. My body prefers a different mix of nutrients these days—and I’m learning to listen instead of resist.

L – Long, Deep Sleep: Rest Without Guilt

Sleep is no longer optional; it’s essential. I’ve let go of late-night television and endless scrolling. Eight hours of long, deep sleep is my non-negotiable. It’s how I recharge my body and clear my mind so I can greet each day feeling fresh.

E – Economic Well-being: Enjoy and Prepare

I’ve learned to strike a balance between enjoying today and planning for tomorrow. It’s time to enjoy the fruits of our labour while still saving for rainy days. My simple rule now: 60% spend, 40% save—a mix of joy, security, and peace of mind.

S – Social Bonds: Fewer, Deeper, Happier

Less really is more. A few friends close to my heart—meet them, talk with them, and laugh with them, sometimes like a spoilt child. Honest conversations, comfortable silences, and plenty of belly laughter are my favourite ways to unwind. These moments don’t just feel good—they quietly add happiness to life, and life to the years.

So, What’s the Secret of making to a 100?

Living long isn’t about chasing more years—it’s about adding intention to the years we already have. Through movement, mindful eating, deep rest, financial balance, and meaningful relationships, I choose to grow older with energy, purpose, and joy.

This is my MILES journey—not just to live longer, but to live fully, one day at a time.
